AI Readiness Assessment

An AI readiness assessment is an honest diagnostic of whether your business is ready to adopt AI and where the gaps are. We score your maturity across data, infrastructure, organization, governance, and skills, then hand you a clear picture of what to fix before you invest in building anything.

What it is

What is an AI readiness assessment?

An AI readiness assessment is a structured diagnostic that measures how prepared your organization is to adopt AI successfully. It looks inward across the things that decide whether AI works in practice: the quality and accessibility of your data, your technical infrastructure, your organization and culture, your governance and compliance posture, and your team's skills. The output is a maturity score, a gap analysis, and a prioritized list of what to address first.

It matters because rushing into AI without checking readiness is the most common reason projects stall and budgets are wasted. A clear-eyed assessment tells you where you genuinely stand, separates the gaps that block progress from the ones that can wait, and gives you the inputs to build a credible plan. It is a diagnosis, not a build: if you already know your gaps and want the sequenced plan to close them, that is strategy work, and we will point you there.

What's included

What the assessment covers

Data foundationWe review data quality, structure, access, and governance to see what your AI can actually be built on.
Infrastructure and toolingWe assess your cloud, compute, and existing tools against what your priority use cases would require.
Organization and cultureWe gauge sponsorship, ways of working, and appetite for change, the human factors that decide adoption.
Governance and complianceWe check policies, risk controls, and regulatory exposure so AI does not create liabilities later.
Skills and capabilityWe map current AI and data skills against the roles your plans will need, and size the gap.
Maturity scoreWe benchmark you across each dimension and give a clear score that shows where you stand today.
Gap analysis and recommendationsWe deliver a prioritized list of gaps with concrete next steps, not just a number on a page.
How we work

How the assessment works

1Scope and stakeholders

We agree what to assess and line up the right people across data, IT, and the business.

2Discovery and interviews

We gather evidence through interviews, document review, and a look at your data and systems.

3Scoring across dimensions

We rate each readiness dimension against a consistent maturity benchmark.

4Gap analysis

We identify the gaps that block AI and separate the urgent blockers from the lower priorities.

5Prioritized recommendations

We translate gaps into concrete, sequenced actions with a rough sense of effort.

6Readout and roadmap inputs

We present the findings to stakeholders and hand over inputs ready to feed an AI roadmap.

Why it matters

What the assessment gives you

A readiness assessment replaces guesswork with an honest, scored picture of where you stand and what to fix first.

An honest baseline

A clear maturity score across every dimension, so you know your real starting point, not an assumed one.

Prioritized gaps

A ranked list that separates the blockers you must fix from the nice-to-haves that can wait.

A de-risked next step

Findings that feed straight into a roadmap, so the AI work you fund is built on solid ground.

Who this is best for

The right fit

Best fit when

You are considering AI but unsure if your data, systems, and team can support it, or a past project stalled and you want to know why before trying again. You want an honest baseline before committing budget.

You might not need this

If you already know your gaps and want a sequenced, costed plan to close them, skip the diagnostic and go to AI Strategy and Roadmap Consulting. If your main concern is purely the depth and engineering of your data, that is a data project, not a readiness review.

FAQs

Common questions about AI readiness assessments

How long does an AI readiness assessment take?

It is a short, focused engagement, typically a few weeks rather than months, with the exact length depending on company size and how many functions are in scope. The goal is a fast, honest baseline, so we keep it tight and structured. We confirm the timeline with you before we start.

How is a readiness assessment different from an AI strategy?

A readiness assessment looks inward and diagnoses: it scores your current maturity and finds the gaps. An AI strategy looks forward and plans: it prioritizes use cases and sequences a roadmap to close those gaps and capture value. The assessment is the input; the strategy is the plan built on it. Many clients do the assessment first, then the roadmap.

What do we receive at the end?

A maturity score across each dimension, a written gap analysis, and a prioritized set of recommendations with concrete next steps. A score on its own does not move anything forward, so we connect it to specific actions and the inputs you need to build a roadmap. The findings are written for both your technical team and your leadership.

Do we need an assessment, or can we just start building?

If you have one well-understood use case and clean, accessible data, you can often move straight to building. An assessment pays off when you have multiple ambitions, messy or siloed data, unclear governance, or a stalled project, because it stops you investing on top of a weak foundation. It is insurance against an expensive false start.

Who needs to be involved from our side?

A useful assessment needs voices from data and IT, the business owners who would use the AI, and someone who can speak to governance and risk. We keep the time commitment light, usually a set of short interviews plus access to a few documents and systems. The broader the input, the more accurate the score.

What happens after the assessment?

You own the findings and can act on them however you like, with us or on your own. Most clients use the prioritized gaps and maturity score as the foundation for an AI strategy and roadmap, which turns the diagnosis into a funded, sequenced plan. There is no obligation to continue with us to do that.
